Brick & block quantities

Estimate units from wall area, unit dimensions and mortar joints.

Your inputs

Check all starting values against your project and product. Enter your own prices; keep costs on the same GST basis.

MEASURE FIRST

How to prepare your inputs

Measure each wall face and deduct genuine openings. Check actual unit dimensions, bond, leaves and joint specification.

How this calculation works

Units = net face area × leaves ÷ [(unit length + joint) × (unit height + joint) in metres], then add allowance and round up.

Worked example

One square metre with 230 × 76 mm bricks and 10 mm joints uses about 48.45 units before allowance.

Assumptions & exclusions

Examples are editable geometry, not a specification. Excludes special shapes, corners, lintels, ties, reinforcement, core fill and mortar. Measure openings and check actual bond/coursing with a bricklayer.

Your next step

Ask your bricklayer to confirm special units, coursing, ties, lintels, core fill and mortar before ordering.

What if my shape or product is different?

Use dimensions and product data that match the stated method. For complex work, calculate separate sections or obtain a project-specific take-off. Do not apply simple geometry to structural or compliance decisions.

Why are quantities rounded up?

Whole bags, packs, sheets or cartridges round up to purchasable units. Decimal area or volume results are planning figures; confirm order increments with the supplier.

Are my entries saved?

No. Entries remain in the current browser page and clear on reload. Printing can save your results and inputs as a PDF on your device.
