Irrigation precipitation & runtime

Convert measured zone flow to average application and target-depth runtime.

Your inputs

Check all starting values against your project and product. Enter your own prices; keep costs on the same GST basis.

MEASURE FIRST

How to prepare your inputs

Measure each irrigation zone and verify total installed flow. Enter your own target applied depth.

How this calculation works

Average precipitation mm/h = zone L/min × 60 ÷ area m². Runtime minutes = target depth × area ÷ flow.

Worked example

20 L/min across 100 m² averages 12 mm/hour. Applying 5 mm takes 25 minutes and 500 L.

Assumptions & exclusions

Average gross application, not irrigation design or plant advice. Excludes uneven coverage, evaporation, infiltration and runoff. Target depth is entered by the user. Verify catch-can results and local watering rules.

Your next step

Check coverage uniformity, soil infiltration, pressure, plant requirements and local watering rules with an irrigation specialist.

What if my shape or product is different?

Use dimensions and product data that match the stated method. For complex work, calculate separate sections or obtain a project-specific take-off. Do not apply simple geometry to structural or compliance decisions.

Why are quantities rounded up?

Whole bags, packs, sheets or cartridges round up to purchasable units. Decimal area or volume results are planning figures; confirm order increments with the supplier.

Are my entries saved?

No. Entries remain in the current browser page and clear on reload. Printing can save your results and inputs as a PDF on your device.
